Is your heart fully surrendered to the Lord? Are you willing to cutoff or remove anything that will interfere with your affection for Him or your commitment to Him? Do you have a passion for honoring God? Your honest response to these questions will help you know if your heart truly belongs to God or if He is sharing you with another. God desires to have your whole heart, and not just a portion of it. He is a jealous God and becomes offended when you claim to belong to Him but you give your best energy to other things or other people. God is insulted when He is not the priority of your life. In the very first commandment given to the children of Israel after they were delivered from slavery, God said, “You shall have no other gods before me.” Prior to dying, Joshua called a meeting of the tribes of Israel at Shechem, and he said to them, “Now fear the LORD and serve Him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your forefathers worshiped beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD. But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve.”[Joshua 24:14-15a]
Do you fear God? No, I don’t mean are you scared of Him. By fear, I mean do you revere Him? Do you honor and respect Him and hold Him in the highest regard? If God’s command or instruction puts you at odds with someone you are afraid to lose from your life, which do you choose? If God instructs you to stop a certain behavior that you really love, will you choose the behavior over pleasing God? Any time we willfully choose to disobey God to please self or someone else, we show that God does not fully have our heart and that we are not serving Him with all faithfulness.
To give your heart to the LORD, you must make pleasing Him more important than pleasing anyone else, including yourself. Your number one objective should be to make God happy. FIDELITY to God and OBEDIENCE to His Word is what lets God know that He has your heart. Once God knows He has your heart, there is nothing He will withhold from you. For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him. [2 Chronicles 16:9]
Beloved, set your heart and mind on things above, not on earthly things. Seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness. Give your heart to God and serve Him only. Delight yourself in Him and He will give you the desires of your heart.
